ECHO Program projects and initiatives

The ECHO Program leads, collaborates on and supports a range of projects, educational initiatives and voluntary research trials, which are designed to provide a better understanding of the cumulative effects of marine shipping on whales, and inform the development and testing of potential threat-reduction solutions.

While the ECHO Program’s focus is on acoustic disturbance – one of the four key threats identified by Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s facing at-risk whales in the region – the ECHO Program also supports other threat reduction projects such as those focused on physical disturbances and environmental contaminants.

Below you’ll find information on our seasonal underwater noise reduction initiatives in three southern resident killer whale critical habitat areas.
