Port Information Guide updated

January 16, 2024

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has amended its Port Information Guide, following completion of a formal comment period.

The Port Information Guide outlines practices and procedures applicable to all ships within the port authority’s jurisdiction, which extends from Roberts Bank and the Fraser River up to and including Burrard Inlet (see jurisdiction map). The guide is designed to promote safe and efficient navigation within the waters of the port and support efforts to protect the marine environment.

From time to time, the port authority makes amendments to the guide, in accordance with Section 56 of the Canada Marine Act. The latest notice of amendment was issued December 1, 2023, including:

  • The addition of new and refreshed definitions
  • Introduction of LNG Bunker Accreditation Program
  • Addition of the Terminal Data Sheet for the new Vancouver Airport Fuel Facilities Corporation (VAFFC) South Fraser Terminal
  • Refresh the “Assist tugs” and “Escort tugs” terminology throughout the document to provide consistency and clarity
  • Refresh the terminology used in “TCZ-4 Pilotage Requirements”
  • Addition of Clear Transit Area Coordinates in “TCZ-4 Restrictions – Clear Transit Areas”
  • Refresh the Port Information Guide with general updates not affecting intent or application

A formal comment period for the amendments ran from December 1, 2023, to January 15, 2024, and gave all interested parties the opportunity to submit written comments to [email protected]. The comment period was extended by 15 days to accommodate the holiday period.
