On October 24, 2022, a project permit was issued to the upland property owner at 1140 Alderside Road, Port Moody to develop Existing Dock Replacement located at 1140 Alderside Road in Port Moody, British Columbia on federal lands and waters managed by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.

About the project

The Project consists of replacing the existing recreational dock located within the water lot fronting 1140 Alderside Road, Port Moody. The existing dock will be removed using hand tools, and a small excavator or crane with a clamshell mounted on a barge. All creosote and treated timber material will be removed from the site via barge, transferred upland, and taken to an approved facility for appropriate disposal.

The new dock will consist of:

  • An approximately 38-metre-long by 1.2-metre-wide aluminium walkway supported by six (6) concrete piles
    • Concrete piles will be supported by three (3) concrete footings measuring approximately 2.4-meter wide by 1.2-meter long by 0.6-metre deep – Two (2) piles per footing
  • An approximately 15-metre-long by 1.2-mere-wide ramp
  • An approximately 28 square metres floating dock
  • Four (4) concrete lock blocks and galvanized chains will be installed below the low water mark to secure the float

Decking will consist of 2- by 8-inch non-treated cedar planks with an approximately 20-millimetre (1 inch) gap between planks to allow for light penetration into the marine environment. Float flotation will be provided via plastic tanks filled with foam.

The Project is anticipated to be completed within one month. The works will be scheduled within the DFO fisheries least-risk window for the Project area (Burrard Inlet: August 16 to February 28).
