Permit Issued
On September 14, 2023 a project permit was issued to PKM Marine Terminal Limited Partnership for the 2023 maintenance dredging program at 1995 West 1st St. in North Vancouver, British Columbia. The project is located in federal lands and water managed by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority
The project was approved subject to 40 permit conditions PKM Marine Terminal Limited Partnership must meet to ensure the project does not result in significant adverse environmental effects. Please see the Impact Assessment Act Registry for the Notice of Intent and Notice of Decision.
About the project
PKM Canada Marine Terminal Limited Partnership proposes to conduct maintenance dredging along Berths 1 through 5 at the Vancouver Wharves facility. Dredging activities are expected to be completed over four to five weeks within the fisheries’ least-risk window for the Burrard Inlet (August 16 to February 28). Dredging is required to maintain operational capacity for ship berthing.
Sediment will be removed using a clamshell dredge and dredged material will be stockpiled and dewatered at the facility. Once treated, dewatered sediment will be transported by truck and disposed of at an appropriately licensed disposal facility.
Recent maintenance dredging occurred in 2011, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2019.
