Permit application under review

In October 2022, Burrard Yacht Club submitted a project permit application to conduct breakwater replacement at 10 Gostick Place, North Vancouver, British Columbia on federal lands and waters managed by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.

As part of the Project and Environmental Review  for the proposed project under the Impact Assessment Act, the proposed project was posted on the Canadian Impact Assessment Registry with an opportunity for public comment between March 5 and April 3, 2024. The port authority will conduct formal consultation activities with stakeholders and Indigenous groups.

About the project

The Burrard Yacht Club is proposing to replace an existing the western wooden breakwater with a purpose-built concrete breakwater within their waterlot located at 10 Gostick Place, North Vancouver, BC. The project consists of the following:

• Temporary removal of two structures from the existing breakwater using a crane: one storage building and one electrical shed
• Removal of the existing wooden breakwater along the western edge of the water lot. The current breakwater is comprised of four wooden pontoon sections that are approximately 12.5 m wide by 33.5 m long (41’ x 110’). The existing breakwater will be towed off site using a barge.
• Replace two 36” diameter steel pile piles with longer (approximately 100’ long) steel pile piles using a vibratory hammer
• Placement of a purpose-built concrete breakwater on the western edge of the water lot. The concrete breakwater is comprised of two cement pontoon sections that are approximately 12.2 m wide by 70 m long (40’ x 230’ long). The breakwater will be fabricated off site and towed to site using a barge.
• Replacement of the two structures on the new concrete breakwater using a crane
