Project status
Permit issued

On July 11, 2023, a project permit was issued to the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (“the applicant”) to complete timber fender repairs at the North and South piers of the Queensborough Bridge in New Westminster, B.C. over federal waters managed by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.

The project was approved subject to 33 permit conditions the applicant must meet to ensure the project does not result in significant adverse environmental effects. Please see the Impact Assessment Act Registry for the Notice of Intent and Notice of Decision.

About the project

The Project consists of the following activities:  

  • Replacement of treated planks  
  • Replacement of steel plates   
  • Rebuilt of the downstream nose frame at the South Pier, which will include new timber piles  

Works will be completed using a marine spud derrick equipped with a vibratory and/or drop hammer. All removed timbers will be sent to licensed disposal facilities.
