Port authority invites East Vancouver community groups to apply for project funding

January 4, 2021

Community organizations from the Downtown Eastside, Strathcona, Grandview-Woodland, and Hastings Sunrise are now invited to submit applications until April 2, 2021 for project funding from the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s Centerm Community Fund.

The fund was created as part of the community investment for the Centerm Expansion Project. It is part of a larger $2 million donation by the port authority to community initiatives in East Vancouver, in coordination with Centerm container terminal operator DP World.

The Centerm Community Fund’s goal is to support projects led by organizations in the Downtown Eastside (including Chinatown, Gastown, Railtown), and the Strathcona, Hastings-Sunrise and Grandview-Woodland neighbourhoods. Projects could include youth, heritage, culture, arts, environmental, and urban aboriginal initiatives.

Projects supporting thriving communities and healthy environment are eligible to receive funding.

The total amount of the fund is $500,000 and will be drawn down over three years and three application periods. The third and last submission period for applications will run from January 5, 2021 until April 2, 2021. Applications must be received during the intake period to be considered.
