Roberts Bank Terminal 2 information request response declared sufficient

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority welcomes the federal minister of environment and climate change’s “sufficiency” determination regarding additional information the port authority provided for the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project.

With this determination, the minister has deemed the information provided on the project sufficient to support government decision making.

The additional information provided by the port authority, as part of a government information request, further demonstrated the project could be completed in an environmentally responsible manner. It included adding additional mitigation and adaptive management measures, and more monitoring.

Roberts Bank Terminal 2 will increase Canada’s west coast container terminal capacity by 30% and is a critical piece of the puzzle for meeting Canada’s growing trade needs, supporting economic prosperity, and ensuring Canadian consumers and businesses continue to reliably access the goods they need every day.

Ongoing collaboration with Indigenous groups has helped to design a project that is reflective of their priorities. The port authority has signed agreements with 24 Indigenous groups to deliver economic, cultural and environmental opportunities and initiatives specific to each community, ensuring project benefits are shared while continuing consultation with all identified Indigenous groups.

The Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project will now move to the final stage of the federal environmental assessment process, which started in 2013. The port authority is hopeful a decision will be made by the Government of Canada in the near future.
