Notice of amendment: Land Use Plan

September 21, 2023

On September 12, 2023, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority board of directors amended the land use plan to incorporate one property acquisition in Surrey, and two re-designations to existing port authority sites in Coquitlam and Electoral Area A—Indian Arm.

Newly acquired site:

  • 12509 Industrial Road, Surrey (designated industrial)

Re-designated port authority sites:

  • Water lot fronting 1950 Brigantine Drive, Coquitlam (re-designated industrial)
  • Portion of water lot fronting Clementine Outstation, Electoral Area A (Indian Arm) (re-designated commercial)

Under the Canada Marine Act, the port authority is required to add all land purchases to our land use plan, and give sites a land use designation by way of a formal amendment.

All Canada Port Authorities are required to have a land use plan, which is a high-level policy document and framework to guide the development of a port authority’s land and waters for the next 15 to 20 years. It is similar to a municipal official community plan and identifies the types of uses that are appropriate within different areas of the port authority’s jurisdiction.

Public consultation on this year’s amendment took place from May 1 to July 1, 2023. Details of the amended properties are available in the notice of decision as well as the consultation summary report posted on the land use planning section of the port authority’s website.
