On May 31, 2021, a project permit was issued to the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (the Applicant), on behalf of DP World Fraser Surrey Docks Limited Partnership (LP), to dismantle an existing container crane. The crane is located on Berth 9 at the DP World Fraser Surrey Docks LP facility in Surrey, on lands managed by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.

The project was approved subject to 31 permit conditions the Applicant must meet to ensure the project does not result in significant adverse environmental effects.

The project will be conducted during regular working hours and will take approximately 30 days to complete.

About the project

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, on behalf of DP World Fraser Surrey Docks Limited Partnership (LP), proposes to dismantle an existing container crane (crane #2) located on Berth 9 at the DP World Fraser Surrey Docks LP facility. Removal of crane #2 is an obligation of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority under the existing tenant Lease Agreement. A floating crane and a supporting material barge will be used to dismantle crane #2. All waste material from the project will be transported off-site to an approved waste management facility. No earthworks and no changes to the existing crane rails and services on-site are anticipated during the crane #2 dismantle and disposal process.

The footprint of the project is approximately 600 square meters and 160 square meters suspended above Berth 9. No in-water physical works are proposed.
