Lehigh Materials – Surrey Barge Ramp Project

Permit issued

In January 2020, a project permit was issued to Hanson Materials Ltd., (the Applicant), to replace a barge ramp and rip-rap for shoreline protection along the foreshore of the leased property at 12366 Musqueam Drive, Surrey, British Columbia on federal lands and waters managed by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.

The project was approved subject to 59 permit conditions that Hanson Materials Ltd. must meet to ensure the project does not result in significant adverse environmental effects.

About the project

Lehigh Hanson Materials Ltd. proposes to replace a derelict barge-offloading ramp at their depot located at the foot of Musqueam Drive in Surrey, British Columbia.

The works include the removal of the existing barge ramp, concrete ramp abutment, and piles. Installation of a new barge ramp is proposed in the same location as the existing ramp and includes construction of a sheet pile wall, new abutment, and offloading ramp. As part of this project, rip rap installation is proposed along the shoreline to repair a section that is eroding.

Works are proposed to be conducted from the upland, with some in-water works completed by barge.
