Halo Sawmill Manufacturing Limited Partnership | Halo Sawmill Maintenance Dredging

February 19, 2021

Project status
Permit issued

In March 2021, a project permit was issued to Fraser River Pile & Dredge (GP) Inc., on behalf of Halo Sawmill Manufacturing Limited Partnership, to conduct maintenance dredging of up to 4,000 cubic metres of material adjacent to 17700 Fraser Dyke Road, Pitt Meadows, BC on waters managed by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.

The project was approved subject to 30 permit conditions that the permit holder must meet to ensure the project does not result in significant adverse environmental effects. Please see the Impact Assessment Act Registry for the Notice of Intent and Notice of Decision.

About the project

The applicant is seeking a multi-year permit to dredge periodically, during the least risk fish window for the Fraser River. Previous maintenance dredging within the same footprint and to the same depth was most recently conducted in February 2020.

The Project consists of dredging to an approximate grade of -4 metres local low water using a barge-mounted crane and clamshell bucket. The dredge footprint will be approximately 7,770 square metres. Dredged materials will be loaded onto a barge for transport and disposal at an approved disposal at sea site. Dredging is anticipated to take two to four days to complete per event. Due to potential restrictions from the nearby Pitt Meadows Airport, dredging may be conducted overnight and on weekends and holidays.
