District of North Vancouver | Cates Park Foreshore Erosion Protection Project

In November 2019, a project permit was issued to the District of North Vancouver to develop the Cates Park Foreshore Erosion Protection Project near 4141 Dollarton Highway in North Vancouver, British Columbia on federal lands and waters managed by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.

The project was approved subject to 33 permit conditions that the District of North Vancouver must meet to ensure the project does not result in significant adverse environmental effects.

About the project

The District of North Vancouver proposes to protect the shoreline at Cates Park from further erosion by depositing sand and gravel on the intertidal foreshore. The materials would replace the previously imported materials which have been lost to erosion from wave action and would protect the upland shoreline and headland from further erosion. The sand and gravel would be brought to the site by truck and placed on the shoreline, from upland areas, using slinger trucks. Materials would be placed at Roche Point and at the sandy beach area located approximately 60 metres west of Roche Point.
