Port authority statement on environmental assessment report for the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project
As we review the environmental assessment report for the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project, we would like to thank the review panel for conducting a thorough and comprehensive review, and express our appreciation to all of the participants who were involved in the environmental assessment.
The release of the review panel’s report marks a significant milestone in the environmental assessment process. The project, a new marine container terminal in Delta B.C., is needed to manage Canada’s growing demand for imported goods and containerized exports. After many years of environmental study conducted by independent experts, we are confident in the information we have provided throughout the environmental assessment, and in our conclusion that the project and marine shipping associated with the project will not have any adverse effects to the environment that cannot be mitigated.
We anticipate that Canada’s west coast will run out of container terminal capacity in just a few short years, and we are eagerly awaiting the next steps in the environmental assessment, which includes a decision from the Government of Canada on whether the project can proceed.
