Despite what one might think, B.C. manufacturing is thriving

October is Manufacturing Month in British Columbia, offering an occasion to celebrate the critical role played by this industry in our province.
“The face of manufacturing is changing, and nowhere is that more apparent than in our province,” writes Marcus Ewert-Johns, chairman of the B.C. Alliance for Manufacturing and a policy advisor of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters. “Manufacturers have increasingly adopted new technologies, automated processes, and continue to innovate. They are creating intellectual property and represent one-third of private sector research and development in B.C.”
Ewert-Johns adds that the local manufacturing industry benefits from our unique geography.
“Our region’s robust trade gateway, including the Port of Vancouver, means economical and reliable access to materials for goods manufacturing. It also means competitive export opportunities, especially in the Asia Pacific. Read more.
