Over 3,000 ships call at the Port of Vancouver each year and ships applying better environmental management practices or using technologies that reduce air emissions and underwater noise can help to protect the natural environment in and around the Port of Vancouver.
Our EcoAction Program provides financial incentives to recognize shipping companies that have made investments to their fleet to perform above and beyond industry best practices. This includes using renewable energy to reduce air emissions, installing propeller technologies that reduce underwater noise, or obtaining third-party environmental designations.
Shipping companies that meet one of these best practices may apply to qualify their ships for up to 47% off of our harbour dues fee, which we charge every ship that calls at the Port of Vancouver. We review and update the program every year, as standards change and new technologies are made available.
