Legislation and Criteria

Environment the Port of VancouverIn addition to the Canada Marine Act and Port Authorities Operations Regulations, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has obligations under federal environmental legislation, including:

Fisheries Act
Species at Risk Act

Impact Assessment Act
Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999
Migratory Birds Convention Act

To ensure the port is operated in an environmentally responsible manner, we follow environmental protection criteria and standards set by several government bodies, including, but not limited to, the following:

Health Canada Contaminated Site Guidelines
Canadian Standards Association Environmental Auditing and Environmental Site Assessment (Phase I and II ESAs) Guidelines
Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment Environmental Quality Guidelines

We also implement our own guidelines and programs, such as the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s Project and Environmental Review Process, which examines a wide range of potential impacts that could stem from proposed projects.
