To Port of Vancouver’s valued customers and stakeholders:
The port authority is preparing for the resumption of operations, which are expected to begin in the coming days. Timelines for resumption of operations will be terminal specific, with container terminals expected to recommence operations on Friday morning.
We will be implementing a priority-based anchorage allocation system to balance the needs of all business sectors and commodities.
On November 12, the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) was directed to order the resumption of operations at west coast ports affected by a labour dispute involving Longshore and Warehouse Union 514 (ILWU Local 514) and BC Maritime Association (BCMEA).
Marine operations
To support recovery efforts, we are requesting that port terminal operators confirm anticipated and estimated berthing dates for arriving vessels to ensure available anchorage capacity supports port capacity optimization.
All anchorage class assignments are experiencing heightened demand, and availability in both port jurisdiction and the Southern Gulf Islands is limited.
Port of Vancouver anchorage utilization (occupied + assigned) (November 13, 2024 – 0600 PST):
- Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (English Bay, Inner Harbour, Indian Arm): 89%
- Southern Gulf Islands: 100%
