The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is delivering the Holdom Overpass Project in partnership with the City of Burnaby, CN, and the Government of Canada. This new four-lane overpass will improve traffic flow and safety for the Burnaby community, and increase trade capacity and efficiency.
Construction on the project began in December 2024. Based on the feedback received during public engagement, we will continue to provide information on upcoming construction activities and traffic impacts on this webpage to make sure the community is kept up to date. Please note that the activities and schedule are subject to change. To receive these updates via email, sign up for our monthly newsletter.
Please travel slowly through the area, use caution, and obey signage and traffic personnel. Users of the Central Valley Greenway are asked to reduce speed and watch for changes along the pathway, such as new signage, traffic calming infrastructure, and ground conditions. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
Multiple locations
Site prep

- Where: Along Central Valley Greenway, and near Douglas Rd. and Norland Ave.
- When: January 8 to mid-April, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- What’s happening: Ground improvements
- What to expect:
- Expect increased noise (consistent with typical construction activities) and increased traffic volumes as construction equipment mobilizes to site
- Local access to driveways will be maintained
- Traffic control personnel will maintain all crosswalks, coordinate access for emergency vehicles, and direct the movement of equipment and workers as required
- These construction activities will not impact cycling or pedestrian access to the Central Valley Greenway, including the portion of the path between Douglas and Kensington
- Northbound bus stop on Douglas Rd. has been temporarily relocated approximately 100m north (south of Still Creek Ave.). Bus operations for the #133 route will not be impacted in the area.
Pile driving
- Where/when:

- What’s happening: Pile driving activities are required to build the overpass structure foundation and the new Goring Pump Station foundation
- What to expect:
- Expect increased noise (consistent with typical construction activities). Most pile driving will be carried out with equipment that results in moderate noise levels, with louder equipment only used when necessary. Noise levels will be monitored and evaluated to ensure equipment operates within noise variance limits.
- Expect low-level vibration in the immediate vicinity of pile driving activity
- Traffic control personnel will direct the movement of equipment and workers, and coordinate access for emergency vehicles as needed

- Local access to driveways will be maintained
- Traffic control personnel will maintain all crosswalks, coordinate access for emergency vehicles, and direct the movement of equipment and workers as required
- Signage will be in place prior to the closure to inform drivers of any traffic pattern changes

Central Valley Greenway
Temporary detour

- Where: East of Douglas Rd.
- When: Beginning March 26, ongoing on a 24-hour basis
- What’s happening: Temporary detour to provide continuous access for Central Valley Greenway users. Existing path will be extended through an adjacent property, connecting to Douglas Rd. and Still Creek Ave. intersection.

- Stage 1 detour (blue route on map) will be used initially, beginning on March 26 for approximately two weeks. Central Valley Greenway users will follow a follow a temporary extension of the path through areas where project clearing activities have already taken place.
- Stage 2 detour (green route on map) is expected to begin on April 11. Involves a temporary extension of the existing pathway through the adjacent property at 2636 Douglas Rd.
- For the safety of Central Valley Greenway users, detours will be fenced and traffic control personnel will direct the movement of equipment and workers, as required, while activities are taking place
- Signage will be in place prior to the closure to inform Central Valley Greenway users of the temporary detour
- Portions of the existing pathway will be temporarily closed while the detour is in effect
Douglas Road and Norland Avenue

Lane shifts
- Where: Douglas Rd. (between Still Creek and Regent St.) and Norland Ave. (east of Douglas Rd.)
