With the festive season in full swing, many of us are busy planning, decorating, gift shopping, or baking delicious treats. But behind the scenes, a dedicated group of workers have been making sure everything we need for the holidays arrives on time. These are our holiday port heroes at the Port of Vancouver.
Over the next week, we'll be featuring many of these holiday port heroes on our social media channels: X, Facebook, and Instagram. Let's take a closer look at a few of the organizations we are celebrating this year, and the crucial role their teams play in keeping the flow of goods smooth and timely.
First, we have BC Coast Pilots, the trusted navigators guiding ships safely through waters along the West Coast of British Columbia. Their expert knowledge of local conditions ensures that vessels reach the Port of Vancouver's terminals safely, efficiently, and in a way that protects the environment. SAAM Towage and Seaspan also plays a vital role on the water by providing towage services. Their skilled crews assist large vessels with berthing and deberthing.
Once the ship docks, it's time for the team at Global Container Terminals and DP World to step in. These container terminal operators are busy managing the flow of goods to and from the ships, rail, and trucks at the port's four container terminals. With direct access to road and rail, goods can flow seamlessly from the water to land.
Next up is WTC Group, a logistics and transloading company specializing in end-to-end import and export logistics for all kinds of products and commodities. They make sure your cargo moves smoothly and efficiently from container ships to trucks and trains.
Southern Railway of British Columbia and Blue Water Rail Services also plays an important role in moving goods across the region. With an extensive network of tracks and connections at the Port of Vancouver between facilities and major North American railroads, SRY and BWRS helps ensure that goods travel efficiently from the port to communities across the country.
Finally, the port authority's harbour patrol works alongside the Port of Vancouver Operations Centre to ensure the safe, secure, and efficient movement of goods. The harbour patrol helps keep shipping lanes clear, assist vessels, and supports search and rescue operations, while our Operations Centre, operating 24/7, coordinates and monitors the safe and efficient movement of goods.
So, as you enjoy this holiday season, remember these teams that make it all possible! Follow along on our social media channels to learn more about these companies and their great team members.
