Thanks to the port community for keeping goods flowing this holiday season

Millions of tonnes of goods move through the Port of Vancouver for the holiday season thanks to the continuous efforts of our entire port community.

December 9, 2022

The Port of Vancouver plays an essential role in making sure Canadians have everything they need to celebrate the holiday season.

Whether it’s the gifts exchanged with family and friends, lights and decorations to brighten up your home, or delicious food and drinks for your festive feasts, many of the items enjoyed around the holidays move through Canada’s largest port.

A lot of planning and coordination goes into making sure these goods—most of which are shipped in containers—arrive well before the holiday season. Moving cargo through Canada’s largest port is a complex operation that requires collaboration throughout our port community, including marine carriers and pilots, longshore workers, terminal operators, railway workers, trucking companies and drivers, and many others across the supply chain who work tirelessly to deliver items across the country in time for the holidays—and all year round.

These port-related activities support over 115,300 jobs and enable the trade of approximately $275 billion in goods to and from Canada each year.

Thank you to all our partners who have played a role in keeping trade moving for the holiday season—for the benefit of all Canadians and Canadian businesses.

Happy holidays!
