Environment

The Port of Vancouver, located on Canada's West Coast, stretches from Burrard Inlet to Boundary Bay, consists of the north and middle arms of the Fraser River, and includes environmental stewardship of 600 kilometers of coastline.

The Port of Vancouver places a very high value on its physical environment and recognizes both human and marine life depend on its protection. The Port is home to hundreds of species of fish, crustaceans, birds and marine mammals. The Port is also a venue for recreation, including kayaking, power and sail boating, scuba diving, and swimming.

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has a major role with its environmental partners in the stewardship of the environment at the Port. Stringent appraisal procedures are implemented by the VPA to strive for environmentally sustainable projects and practices within the Port's jurisdiction. Additionally, as a founding member of the Burrard Inlet Environmental Action Program (BIEAP), VFPA works with other key government agencies to improve environmental conditions in Burrard Inlet.
