Overview
The Port of Vancouver is comprised of 25 major marine terminals that provide a full range of facilities and services to the international shipping community. The majority of the Port's terminals are centrally located in Vancouver's Burrard Inlet, and two terminals are located at Roberts Bank in Delta, 35 km from Vancouver's city centre.

Bulk cargoes account for three-quarters of the Port's annual throughput. Coal, sulphur, potash, grain, petro-chemicals and woodchips are typical of the bulk shipments that are handled through the Port's 17 bulk terminals. Breakbulk cargo such as forest products and steel accounts for five per cent of total cargo volumes at the Port. Forest products account for 95% of total breakbulk cargo and primarily include pulp, lumber, plywood, and newsprint. The Port's three container terminals account for 20% of the Port's total annual tonnage throughput. Plans are underway to increase container-handling capacity at the Port of Vancouver to 4.0 million TEUs by 2012. |
