Neptune Bulk Terminals is North America's largest multi-product bulk terminal. Located on the north shore of Vancouver's inner harbour, Neptune is a highly efficient operation providing modern loading and unloading services and storage facilities for a variety of bulk commodities. Neptune offers 37 years of bulk terminal experience, a range of customer services including rail and vessel coordination, agency services and available terminal capacity. Neptune has an annual throughput capability of 17 million metric tonnes.

Commodities Handled: Export metallurgical and thermal coal, potash, specialty grains, agri-products, bulk fertilizers, canola oil. Inbound grains and phosphate rock.

Site: 29 hectares (71 acres)

Berths: Berth 1: Length 230 metres plus floating dolphin and bollards along shore, depth alongside 15.24 metres, can handle Cape-size vessels up to 180,000 dwt Berth 2: Length 230 metres plus bollards along shore, depth alongside 13.7 metres, can handle Panamax vessels up to 80,000 dwt Berth 3: Length 100 metres, between mooring bollards 250 metres, depth alongside 13.1 metres, can handle vessels up to 65,000 dwt

Storage: Berth 1 Outbound: 600,000 tonnes coal
Berth 2 and 3 Outbound: 210,000 tonnes dry bulk
Liquid Outbound: 19,000 tonnes canola oil
Berth 3 Inbound: 25,000 tonnes

Equipment:
Berth 1:
  • Two quadrant shiploaders each rated at 2,700 tonnes per hour
  • Both loaders have mechanical trimmers
  • Airdraft 19 metres.
  • Stacker/reclaimer rated at 3,600 tonnes per hour
  • One secondary reclaimer fed by mobile equipment rated at 1,000 tonnes per hour
  • Single railcar rotary dumper with indexer rated 3,600 tonnes per hour for unloading coal unit trains of up to 127 railcars
Berth 2: (Outbound)
  • 2 Quadrant shiploaders rated at 2,200 tonnes per hour each
  • Conveyors tie into two dry bulk dumpers and existing dry bulk storage
  • Cascade spouts provide dust controls and minimize product degradation
  • Automatic sampling system and cargo weigh scales to meet CGC standards
Berth 3: (Inbound and Outbound)
  • Linear travelling shiploader rated at 2,500 tonnes per hour for potash and 1,200 for agribulk
  • Two traveling bridges each with a 35 tonne receiving hopper, rated at receiving up to 900 tonnes
  • Geared vessels discharge into receiving hoppers
  • Received cargo is conveyed into railcars direct or silo storage
Facilities and Rail Services:
  • 8 kilometres of continuous loop trackage and company owned locomotives to handle multiple unit train unloading operations
  • Canola oil vessel loading operations available at Berth 1 and 2, rated pumping capacity 500 tonnes per hour
  • Eight stations for canola oil railcar unloading
