Fibreco Terminal is located on the north shore of Burrard Inlet. Fibreco is one of the most modern and largest woodchip handling facilities in the world, with a present capacity of 2 million tonnes per year. The ship berth can handle vessels up to 265 metres long with 11.5 metres draught. Chips are loaded under pneumatic pressure at a rate of up to 1,200 short tons per hour, with an articulated chip flinger directing chips into every corner of the ship's hold.

Commodities Handled: Wood chips in bulk.

Total Area: 9.3 hectares

Berth: Dock face 137 metres long, including mooring dolphins 265 metres, depth alongside 11.5 metres, wharf width 88 ft.

Storage: 100,000 BDU's or 240,000 tonnes of wood chips

Equipment: Pneumatic articulated chip-finger loader, maximum outreach 22 metres, loader retraction 12.8 metres. Loading rates up to 1,200 tonnes per hour, can handle wood chip carriers up to 42,000 dwt.

Facilities:
  • Capacity to accept bulk cargo from vessel equipped with gear to onshore conveying system.
  • Can unload wood chips from rail, truck, barge and ship, and load onto barges and ships.
  • Traveling ship loader system moves along the length of the dock on rails, eliminating the need to warp the vessel along the berth from hatch to hatch.
  • Conveyor belts convey chips to a transfer tower where they are screened for size and to remove foreign material.
  • From the tower, chips pass on to the storage piles ready for loading onboard ship.



Canada
