Information about Lafarge’s Previous Proposal Adjacent to New Brighton Park
In 1998, Lafarge Canada Inc. submitted a proposal to the Vancouver Port Authority (VPA) to construct a concrete batch plant adjacent to New Brighton Park on Commissioners Street in Vancouver. VPA appointed a Project Advisory Committee in the fall of 1999 to assist it in obtaining public input and to make recommendations following the Committee's review of the proposal. After holding public meetings in May 2000, the Committee submitted its report to VPA's Board of Directors in August 2000.
The VPA Board of Directors received the Committee's report at its meeting on September 12, 2000. The Board tabled the report and requested staff to review the findings and to meet with both Lafarge and the City of Vancouver to pursue alternatives.
