CANEXUS Chemicals Canada LP Proposed Technology Conversion Project

CANEXUS Chemicals Canada LP has applied to the Vancouver Port Authority to undertake a technology conversion project at the North Vancouver chlor-alkali facility where Canexus manufactures chlorine, caustic soda and hydrochloric acid.

The proposed technology conversion project will:
  • Introduce quantitative and qualitative risk improvement with the use of state-of-the-art technology
  • Reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Eliminate use and subsequent disposal of process-related asbestos
  • Increase plant efficiency and productivity
  • Improve sustainability of business with improved (caustic) product quality
  • Reduce manufacturing costs
The project will result in incremental increases in vessel traffic and outgoing rail traffic. The project is anticipated to take approximately two years to complete. Work will include demolition of some older parts of the facility and construction of new facilities.
