Burrard Inlet On February 19, 2003, the VPA announced the first phase in its overall container terminal expansion strategy to increase capacity at the Port of Vancouver to capture the significant increase in container volumes predicted over the next 20 years.
This first phase included the Centerm Redevelopment and Vanterm Container Terminal Upgrade projects. The completion of these two projects to the Port of Vancouver's existing Burrard Inlet container terminals, increases total container capacity to over 2 million TEUs.
Centerm Redevelopment P&O Ports Canada Inc. operates Centerm container terminal under a long-term lease agreement with the Vancouver Port Authority. Centerm has recently completed terminal redevelopment plans which have more than doubled Centerm's container handling capacity from 360,000 TEUs to approximately 780,000 TEUs. Vanterm Container Terminal Upgrade TSI Terminal Systems Inc. operates Vanterm under a long-term lease agreement with the Vancouver Port Authority. Terminal expansion plans are now complete and have increased Vanterm's container capacity to approximately 600,000 TEUs. Terminal upgrades included:
