TSI and VPA Celebrate Arrival of 1000th Crane in Vancouver
REVISED TRANSIT TIME UNDER LIONS GATE BRIDGE: 5:00AM SEPT 3RD

VANCOUVER - The arrival of the 1000th crane from the Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co. Ltd (ZPMC) at the Port of Vancouver marks an historic occasion for the Vancouver Port Authority (VPA) and container terminal operator TSI Terminal Systems Inc. (TSI). The Port of Vancouver purchased ZPMC's first crane for the Vanterm terminal in 1991, helping to establish them as a viable supplier in the Asia Pacific region.

"TSI's latest crane purchase is part of our ongoing upgrade program to service new, larger ships and increase capacity at our Vanterm terminal to 850,000 TEUs (twenty foot equivalent units)," said Norman Stark, President and CEO, TSI. "Looking forward to the future growth of our Pacific Gateway, TSI is committed to meeting our customers' needs and providing world-class marine terminal services through sustainable expansion and leading-edge technology."

Late Thursday night the crane arrived on board the vessel Zhen Hua 16, which is now visible at anchor in English Bay. The Zhen Hua 16 will remain at anchor until early Monday morning when it will pass under the Lions Gate Bridge at approximately 5:00 a.m., coinciding with low tide. The crane is the sixth ZPMC crane to be installed at the Vanterm container terminal and features twin lifts and total lift capacity of 65 tonnes, making it capable of lifting two containers at a time, increasing efficiency at the terminal. TSI also operates seven ZPMC cranes at Deltaport.

Growth in the container sector represents significant economic opportunity for Canada and British Columbia. Container expansion at the Port of Vancouver alone is expected to generate an additional $8 billion in economic output by 2020.

"On behalf of the Vancouver Port Authority I would like to congratulate Zhenhua Port Machinery Co. Ltd. and TSI on the significant investment the 1000th crane represents in meeting growing demand for container efficiencies at world-class ports around the world," said Captain Gordon Houston, President and CEO, Vancouver Port Authority. "Such efficiencies are crucial to serving our customers' needs and meeting the demands of increasing container traffic through Canada's Pacific Gateway."

ZPMC is a world leader in the manufacture of cranes. ZPMC's products are used in 54 countries and regions, and over 120 terminals around the world including the US, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Singapore and Australia.

TSI is the largest container terminal operator in Canada, providing service for 75 per cent of the containerized cargo that moves through the Port of Vancouver. In 2006, TSI handled 1.88 million TEUs at Vanterm and Deltaport. The largest terminal employer in the port, TSI's history spans a century of maritime service on Canada's west coast. As a leader and innovator, TSI is geared to address the demands of an increasingly specialized and highly-competitive worldwide shipping industry.

The Port of Vancouver is Canada's largest and most diversified port, trading more than $53 billion in goods with more than 100 trading economies annually. Port activities generate 69,200 jobs in total with $4 billion in Gross Domestic Product and $8.9 billion in economic output.
