Appointment Announcement
Director, Environmental Programs
The Vancouver Port Authority (VPA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Darrell Desjardin to the position, Director, Environmental Programs.

Darrell joined the VPA in 1991 as Environmental Technician. While at the VPA, he has taken on many increasingly complex challenges, both with the port's own environmental initiatives and on behalf of port stakeholders. He has led and managed multi-specialist teams of environmental scientists and engineers in designing and building environmental mitigation and compensation works and undertaking comprehensive environmental studies for major projects. During this period he has worked with and built relationships with federal, provincial, municipal, and First Nations stakeholders as well as non-governmental agencies, to address a diversity of environmental issues in the Burrard Inlet and Fraser River Estuary.

In June 2004, he was promoted to Manager, Environment, Container Development Group, where he was responsible for leading the environmental assessment process for the Deltaport third berth project. Prior to joining the port, Darrell worked as an environmental scientist with Morrow Environmental Consultants Incorporated.

Under Darrell's leadership, the Environmental Programs team will seek to reduce environmental impacts throughout the logistics chain. Darrell's proven ability to foster cooperative working relationships with all levels of government, industry and the public will be key to the successful development and implementation of environmental programs within the Port of Vancouver.
