Port hosts industry leaders to discuss national marine and infrastructure challenges
The Vancouver Port Authority has joined the Journal of Commerce Conferences and Canadian Sailings to launch the 1st Canada-Asia Maritime Conference October 2-3, 2006 at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in Vancouver, B.C. Panels of senior-level maritime and logistics executives and top government officials will gather in Vancouver to discuss Canada-Asia market opportunities, national infrastructure challenges and impediments to sustainability.

"The national interest in this conference reflects the opportunities and challenges we face in Canada to benefit from the enormous growth in trans-Pacific trade," said Capt. Gordon Houston, President and CEO, Vancouver Port Authority. "As Canada's largest port and the leader in maritime trade through the Pacific Gateway, we're pleased to host this important forum at the Port of Vancouver."

Speakers from across the country include the Hon. Kevin Falcon, Minister of Transportation for the Province of British Columbia, who will discuss the province's $3 billion Gateway Program infrastructure development plan, and Fred Green, president and chief executive of Canadian Pacific Railway, who will join Houston to examine solutions for transportation bottlenecks and port congestion.
