July 5, 2005 Update: VPA Ready to Participate at Mediator's Request
Container truck drivers, represented by the Vancouver Container Trucking Association (VCTA), continue to strike. The VPA is prepared to participate in discussions related to the VCTA strike, if and when mediator Vince Ready deems it appropriate. VPA representatives have been in communication with Ready, who advised that the port's participation is not yet required.
Last Thursday, provincial Labour Minister Mike De Jong and Federal Labour Minister Joe Fontana announced that mediator Vince Ready will act as a facilitator in the strike by container truck drivers. The strike costs the provincial economy as much as $30 million a day.
