July 5, 2005 Update: Port to Meet with Facilitator
Vince Ready, the facilitator appointed to settle the strike by the Vancouver Container Truckers Association (VCTA), has asked for representatives from the Vancouver Port Authority and the Fraser River Port Authority to participate in a session this evening to discuss what role they could play in settling this dispute.
Container truck drivers, represented by the Vancouver Container Trucking Association (VCTA), continue to strike as talk have stalled. Primary issues are wages and fuel surcharges. On Thursday, provincial Labour Minister Mike De Jong and Federal Labour Minister Joe Fontana announced that mediator Vince Ready will act as a facilitator in the strike by container truck drivers. The strike costs the provincial economy as much as $30 million a day.
