July 4, 2005 Update: Talks Underway as Facilitator Appointed to Resolve Container Truck Drivers' Dispute
Container truck drivers, represented by the Vancouver Container Trucking Association (VCTA), continue to strike as talks have commenced with facilitator Vince Ready. Primary issues are wages and fuel surcharges.
On Thursday, provincial Labour Minister Mike De Jong and Federal Labour Minister Joe Fontana announced that mediator Vince Ready will act as a facilitator in the strike by container truck drivers. The strike costs the provincial economy as much as $30 million a day.
