April 7, 2005 Vancouver Port Authority Board of Directors Welcomes New Board Members Kenneth Matchett & Marilyn Baker
Vancouver: Mr. George Adams, Chairman, Vancouver Port Authority (VPA), is pleased to announce the appointment of two Board Members. Mr. Kenneth L. Matchett was appointed by the Federal Minister of Transport, Jean-C. Lapierre for three years effective March 9, 2005, following his nomination by the Port Users. Mr. Matchett replaces Mr. David Stowe who also served as Chairman and recently stepped down after completing two three-year terms. Ms. Marilyn Baker was appointed by the eight municipalities that have boundaries with the Port of Vancouver to the Board of Directors for a three-year term commencing March 1, 2005. Ms. Baker replaces former municipal appointee Mr. Wayne Hartrick.
"On behalf of the board and the Vancouver Port Authority, Id like to extend my congratulations to Mr. Matchett and Ms. Baker on their appointments," said Chairman Adams. "Both of them bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the board. I look forward to their contributions and to working with them." Mr. Matchett has an extensive background in business, finance and marketing. He is President of Rimal International Inc., a company that provides management-consulting services to industry and government. Mr. Matchett was Chief Executive Officer of XCAN Grain Limited (1998 2001), and held a number of senior management positions with United Grain Growers Ltd. (1970 1988). Mr. Matchett has served on a variety of boards and councils including the Pacific Basin Economic Council International and Canada, Canada-Japan Business Council, Prime Ministers Council on Asia Pacific, the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters Association, Canadian and Manitoba Institutes of Chartered Accountants, Canola Council of Canada, Winnipeg Commodity Exchange, and Canada Grains Council. Ms. Baker has a background in small business and extensive experience as a director and board member in numerous elected and appointed positions. Currently, she is a Governor of The Law Foundation of British Columbia. Ms. Baker served 13 years on North Vancouver District Council, including four terms as Mayor before retiring from public office in 1990. During this period, she was also elected as Vice Chair of the Greater Vancouver Regional District, president of the Union of B.C. Municipalities and served on various committees including the Western Transportation and Advisory Council, Port Economic Development Advisory Committee, and North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce. The Vancouver Port Authoritys Board is responsible for overseeing the VPAs activities while acting honestly and in good faith with a view to the best interests of the port authority. The Port of Vancouver is Canada's largest and most diversified port, trading $29 billion in goods with more than 90 trading economies each year.
