Vancouver Port Authority reaches agreement in principle with Aeroguard for cruise security guard services
Vancouver: The Vancouver Port Authority (VPA) is pleased to announce it has reached an agreement in principle with Aeroguard for security guard services at its two cruise ship terminals, Canada Place and Ballantyne. Under the new contract, cruise terminal guard services will operate under a new management structure while Aeroguard security guards will continue to operate under their present employment agreement with Aeroguard.

"Security is a priority for the Port of Vancouver as is the unimpeded movement of passengers and cargo," said Captain Chris Badger, Vice President, Customer Development and Operations, Vancouver Port Authority. "This new arrangement allows us to enhance security services and we are confident this is an acceptable solution for all stakeholders."

"We are pleased to continue to serve the cruise sector and this important component of the local economy at Canada's largest and busiest port," said Mike Howarth, Chief Operating Officer, Aeroguard Security Ltd.

"We're pleased to see both sides have reached agreement and we look forward to a successful cruise season," said John Hansen, President, North West CruiseShip Association.

Vancouver's cruise business directly generates $177 million in wages, $228 million in GDP and $508 million in economic output. Each sailing of a cruise ship is worth $1.5 million to the Canadian economy.

The Port of Vancouver is Canada's largest and most diversified port, trading $29 billion in goods with more than 90 trading economies each year. Port activities generate 62,000 jobs in total with $1.6 billion in Gross Domestic Product and $3.5 billion in economic output. Last year, 66.7 million tonnes were shipped through the Port of Vancouver.
