Increased security
Transport Canada has requested that the Port of Vancouver move from normal security levels with heightened vigilance to that of a higher probability with non-specific threat. This will include the following security measures:

  • Increased monitoring of Port-wide video systems

  • Increased police presence

  • As part of these security measures, please be advised as of Monday, March 24, 2003 access to port property will be restricted. As such, only those members of the port community conducting official port business shall have access to the Port. We would appreciate you notifying any employees, customers and/or vendors that they are now advised to carry valid government-issued photo identification if they require access to port property.

Please note the Heatley Avenue Overpass will be closed effective Monday, March 24, 2003 until further notice. In addition, the Vancouver Police Department is considering the possibility of closing Victoria Street to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. McGill Street and Clark Street Overpasses will be the only access points for inbound/outbound traffic and will have increased access-controlled measures effective Monday, March 24, 2003.

Please check this site for further updates.
