October 21, 2002 Media advisory: B.C. Hearings on Changes to Federal Marine Legislation Attract Strong Interest
WHAT:Canada Marine Act Review: British Columbia Hearings
A federal government Review Panel tasked with providing input on improvements to the Canada Marine Act (CMA) will hold hearings for B.C. stakeholders throughout the week of October 21. The CMA established and regulates the Authorities that manage Canadas national ports. The Vancouver Port Authority is seeking changes to the CMA that will improve the ports competitiveness and its ability to capitalize on business growth opportunities. The scheduled hearings in British Columbia have been extended to a full week in light of very strong stakeholder interest. WHO:The Vancouver Port Authority will be the first presenter at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, October 21. More than 30 other organizations are scheduled to present, including municipalities, major business associations, transportation-sector interests and port users.
