Missing Link Added to Shoreline Park System

What: Opening ceremony and plaque unveiling to commemorate the addition of Tidal Park to the Shoreline Park System.

Where: Rocky Point Pier at Tidal Park, City of Port Moody. See map below.

When: Wednesday October 23 at 1 p.m.

Who:Captain Gordon Houston, President and CEO (Vancouver Port Authority), Mayor J. Trasolini (City of Port Moody), Port Moody Councilors, Environment Committees, Commissions and Boards.

Quick Facts - Tidal Park

  • is made up of one of only two intertidal mudflats in the Lower Mainland.


  • links five area parks and nine distinct ecological zones to form a continuous 84.3-hectare horseshoe around the head of the Burrard Inlet.


  • encompasses Rocky Point to Old Orchard and connects the existing Shoreline, Inlet and Town Center Parks.

  • ensures the maintenance of a unique and diverse local ecology.


  • hosts an abundance of life in the form of small marine invertebrates that provide a plentiful source of food for approximately 40 species of open water and intertidal fish, more than 116 species of migratory and resident shorebirds and waterfowl and even mammals such as river otters and raccoons.


  • provides vital habitat for several vulnerable species of birds such as Great Blue herons and Band-tailed pigeons.


  • provides ecological integrity to an environmentally sensitive region.


  • is under the environmental stewardship of the City of Port Moody.


  • is dedicated by the City of Port Moody and the Vancouver Port Authority.
