May 22, 2002 VPA, City of Port Moody create Tidal Park
Vancouver: The Vancouver Port Authority (VPA) and the City of Port Moody have reached an agreement to provide an additional 33 hectares of waterfront park for residents and visitors of Port Moody to enjoy. Named "Tidal Park," the new park provides the missing link in the Shoreline Park system.
"The addition of this new park land speaks to the strong relationship we have forged with the City of Port Moody and our commitment to the environment," said David Stowe, Chairman, Vancouver Port Authority. "This park is an environmental jewel that, combined with our existing Shoreline Park System, provides almost 100 hectares of connected waterfront park and walking trails for the benefit of the residents of Port Moody and the Lower Mainland," said Mayor Joe Trasolini. Port Moody will be financially responsible for the operation of the park and will assume stewardship of the environmentally sensitive area. The VPA will provide in-kind assistance such as environmental signage, marketing material and professional environmental assistance. "This agreement allows us to balance the needs of a working port and those of the community," said Captain Gordon Houston, President and Chief Executive Officer, Vancouver Port Authority. "The environment is one of our core values, and with this agreement we are protecting the environment for the benefit of future generations." -30- For more information, please contact: Anne McMullin, Director, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Vancouver Port Authority (604) 665-9069 (office) (604) 665-9073 (fax) (604) 218-1403 (cellular) anne.mcmullin@portvancouver.com For more information: For more information on any of these stories, call 1-888 PORTVAN.
