July 6, 2001 Vancouver Port Authority reports positive outlook at annual general meeting
Vancouver: With a record year for virtually all sectors of the Port, the Vancouver Port Authority is reporting a positive outlook on its finances, its operations and its future direction at its annual general meeting today. The meeting takes place at 3 p.m. at Simon Fraser University at Harbour Centre, Fletcher Challenge Theatre, Room #1900, 515 West Hastings Street, Vancouver, B.C.
The year 2000 was full of new records and accomplishments. Our annual general meeting gives us an opportunity to report on the achievements in the past and the challenges we face in the future to make Port Vancouver the port of choice on the west coast of North America, said David Stowe, Chairman, Vancouver Port Authority. Our port has seen robust growth in many sectors. We continue to position ourselves for future growth to meet the needs of an industry that expects facilities that are efficient, cost-effective and technologically advanced, said Gordon Houston, Vancouver Port Authority President and CEO. The format of the public forum will feature presentations from VPA Chairman David Stowe; President and CEO Gordon Houston; and Senior Vice President, Finance and Administration, Tom Winkler. Questions will be taken after the presentations. Port Vancouver is Canadas largest and most diversified port, trading more than $30 billion in goods with more than 90 nations.
